Phil Drane Biography
Phil is a native English Folk-Heritage musician, born and raised in Lancashire, who now spends half his life in England and the other half in New Zealand.
Phil now performs over 40 main guest concerts in England, Scotland and NZ each year, and has supported artists such as Dave Swarbrick, Kevin Dempsey, Jez Lowe and Steve Ashley.
Phil's performances are an eclectic mix of ancient and modern material from his own Lancashire and English folk-culture (which he refers to as 'singing my ancestry'), his own compositions (perhaps the award-winning ‘Song For Jackie’?) and the odd surprise.
Along with uniquely creative arrangements (woven together with a dose of Lancashire blether and witty banter), and a natural ability to establish a warm rapport with his audience, Phil has been described as 'breathing new life into English folk-heritage material'. His skill as a guitarist is much admired everywhere he performs, and according to Dave Goulder, Phil's vocals and guitar work are 'reminiscent of the very best English finger-style singer/ guitarists - Nic Jones and Bob Fox'.
Consequently, audiences can expect beautifully presented songs, smooth vocals and superb guitar work spun together with a generous dose of Lancashire Englishness.
An eclectic performance that appeals to folkies and non-folkies alike.
